Our Story

Facets Jewellery is a family-run business that strives to feature unique products, provide excellent customer service, and contribute positively to its community.

Janette – owner, jeweler and goldsmith – grew up in California and developed a passion for goldsmithing and jewellery after taking jewellery-making courses in high school. Janette moved to Canada when she was 19 and began creating her own jewellery, selling it at local markets and festivals. Although originally self-taught, Janette pursued a number of learning opportunities and completed courses in lapidary and stone cutting. In 1992, she completed a certificate in Diamonds from the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California. Over the years, she also gained important experiences and skills by working as a goldsmith in a number of jewellery stores in Hamilton Ontario. Later, when her children were small, Janette ran an independent business out of her home which focused on repairs and custom work.

In November of 1994, Janette opened Facets Jewellery in Caledonia, Ontario. The store was opened on a tight budget of five thousand dollars, expanding beyond those small beginnings over the years. Since opening her store, Janette has continued to pursue professional development opportunities in her field, including Stuller’s Bench Jewellers workshop which is held each year in Louisiana.

Janette’s daughter, Kate, was only 7 years old when Facets Jewellery opened. Facets has been an important and consistent part of her life. In many ways, she grew up in the store, learning the business and taking on work and increased responsibilities as she grew.

After high school, Kate attended Georgian College and successfully completed the program in Jewellery and Metals. She also received a post graduate diploma in Goldsmithing and Silversmithing. Since completing her college education, Kate has gone on to achieve an Accredited Jewelry Professional Diploma at the Gemological Institute of America, as well as certificates in Diamonds and Diamond Grading. She is currently working towards her Graduate Gemologist Diploma.

Facets Jewellery is now in its 26th year and specializes in jewellery repair, as well as custom and distinct pieces. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers and community for many more years to come.
